Snapchat was once leading the social media landscape, but is it still hot and happening enough to use today? Here's Ora's take.
Social media has played a huge part in the world we live in today- in both our personal lives and our businesses, and Snapchat is no exception. But is it tick tock for Snapchat, or is it still hot and happening enough to use today? Youre about to find out.
Over the years, weve seen how social apps have managed to lose or gain users for many different reasons. Its no secret that apps like Facebook have lost users over the years, but have also been really helpful for many businesses, and the fact that there are always new apps being put out doesnt exactly help the situation.
With that said, its no secret that Snapchat has been one of the top players since its release in 2011. But we also cant help but ask if businesses should even still bother creating Snapchat marketing campaigns, or just scrap that idea and move with the times into the likes of new hard hitters, such as TikTok.
The truth is that Snap has a global reach and over 260 million daily users, so if its a relevant platform for the audience youre trying to reach, Id say that ditching it completely isnt the best idea. Perhaps it would be more helpful to recreate your existing Snapchat strategy before giving up on it completely. And lets be honest, if youre even asking if this app is dead, then its safe to say some areas of how youre using it could need some serious improvements.

Like all your other social media accounts, Snapchat wont run itself. Youll have to be committed to it, especially if you want it to work out for your business. A good place to start is ensuring that your Snap account is a business account. Why? Because then itll be easier for you to keep up with the Snap insights and understand how your reach and engagement is looking. This will give you a better understanding of just how powerful this app can be when used right. Remember that your social media relevance is part how great your content is, and part how often you put content out- so post regularly.
Who to involve
I feel like if youve been on other social media apps regularly lately and youre keeping a watchful eye on your competitors, you already know what Im about to say. One word: Influencers. The type of influencer you choose should be relevant to your brand, but not only that, they should also be huge fans of the app and have a decent Snap following. When done right, influencer marketing will help you put your business out there and gain you a significant amount of new followers.
What else you can add
Snap ads are not a myth- in fact, they could be exactly what you need to market your business on a platform with this kind of reach, especially if youd like to stand out. These ads will pop up in full screen, giving users a brief summary of what your business is about. You would, of course, create these yourself based on how youd like to appeal to your audience. And theres more- because this is such a filter-based app, your business can leverage on that as well. How? With filters and lenses. Businesses are able to show up as a filter or a lens- doing the usual face-changing effect, adding things that normal filters do- but with a twist such as including your brand's logo or mascot. Its an interactive and engaging way to bring awareness to your brands.
Lastly, Snapchat can completely transform your business, but it can also seem futile if you dont know what to do with it. For your business to grow through an app like this, you need to consider who uses it the most and what portion of your target audience falls into that category. Appeal to them by giving them the full experience through content thats young, fun and engaging.
