All industries have been grappling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the NGO sector has been among the most affected. If you really think about the critical aid NPOs deliver, the vulnerable communities who need it and, of-course how big this sector actually is (around 220k registered NPOs is SA alone), as well as job losses, lack of service delivery, then it’s clear that the pandemic has greatly affected this sector. The truth is, NPOs do not have the capability to sustain themselves as they may lack the resources and funds to pivot their organisations to adapt to the demands that COVID has thrown at them.

So how can I get involved?

Corporates have the ability to get involved and play a role in the survival of NPOs. By investing time, effort and energy within your CSI efforts, you have the ability to uplift NGOs, which in turn uplifts communities. All of this helps our economy because government and even the most well intentioned businesses, don’t have the man power and reach to get to these various communities at large.

What CSI actually contributes to your business

Corporate Social Investment is critical to your business because it aids in the upliftment of communities with people and heart at the centre of what you do. These efforts become more than just your product and service offering, it’s about the bigger picture and actually making a difference to a community and which employees, suppliers and even customers wouldn’t feel great about being a part of something far greater?

Why CSI is vital for your brand

In my previous article series, CSI marketing Part 1 and Part 2, we spoke about what your business can actually get out of this, which big businesses and brands are actually doing this well and what we can learn from them, and how to measure the benefits of these efforts because at the end of the day, ROI matters.

CSI efforts enable a form of brand recognition synonymous with giving back and doing good. The rewards are twofold for your business – you build a brand that cares and reap the benefits within your business as they directly affect your bottom line.

Ready to get started? No matter how big or small your business is, or how substantial your investment is within this arena, our economy needs it, so let’s work together to uplift these vulnerable communities.
